Why is it important to sit down, shut up and get still?

When we race around, busy in the doing and overwhelmed with the enormity of what must be done and achieved we experience stress. This stress can cause distortion of what really is and soon we can lose perspective. Have you experienced this? Have you lost your way because of stress and overwhelm and found yourself unsure of where to begin or what to do next?
The truth is we are the result of everything that we have ever achieved and experienced. What makes us so unique is this individuality and as such we can find ourselves only ever seeing the new things in our lives through this lens. However there is a vast range of experiences and lenses in which we can see and participate in the world which many of us never discover.
To discover the different perspectives and lenses that are out there we must stop. We must make time to sit still, to get perspective and to adjust the stimulation. You see if you only ever do something in a particular way then you are never open to the idea that there are other ways of doing the same thing.
Getting still and quiet offers a new space for reflection, thought and input. As people we want to be progressive, adaptive and open and this comes when we are open to new perspectives. But the noise and the stimulation of the status quo can make it very hard for us to receive, be open and make choices to seek out new things.
Once a day make time to be still, to reflect, to stop. Meditation is a wonderful practice and we really benefit on every level when we consciously meditate regularly. We recorded earlier this year speedy and effective short and sharp meditations that create impact!! Check them out –
Play around with the idea of slowing down and creating some space between yourself and your reactions this week and be open to the new experiences and ideas that can begin to flow in when we sit down, shut up and get still…
